Digital Workflow

In today's digital world there is no reason for anyone to be trapped behind a desk or constrained to be in a certain physical location just to get work done. With digital technologies including unified messaging, web based practice management and a digital dictation, attorneys can process work from anywhere there is a telephone or internet connection.

But where to start?

If you use a tape in any business process, start here. Ditch the tape and make the process digital. In almost every instance, it is better, faster and cheaper to maintain your business processes in a digital fashion.

For instance, if your firm's dictators use micro-casettes you can immediately boost productivity just by upgrading ONLY the dictation part to digital. Of course, compound the return on investment by partnering with a service such as LegalTypist, or a single virtual assistant for initial drafts, after hours, overflow or other mutually agreed upon services.

But why dictation?

Digital Dictation:

Generally, speaking is 7 times faster than writing and 4 times faster than typing. Think about that for a moment. Even if an attorney uses a computer and can manipulate software, that does not necessarily mean it is the best use of their time.  Do you think attorneys didn't have the ability to type on a typewriter? Of course they did! However, the majority would use their voice to delegate the typing and administrative duties to their assistant - leaving them free to take care of the million of other things clamoring for their attention.

Many think of "dictation" equals documents - but nothing could be further from the truth!  If you can speak your needs, make a request or instruct someone via voice, then with the right tech and the right people in place, it can easily be crossed of an attorney's to do.  Calendar entries, time and billing functions, client information and files - all the information a secretary would collate and organize on site, can now be done so through the web.  This is what is called a "digital workflow".

The core of a digital workflow - using your voice to process the information and documents of your practice - is the most efficient method to get work done.  Once you get the hang of it, you won't believe why you used to do it yourself!
